Brian Hecker, AFI "Director of the Year," signed a three picture deal
with Miramax Films. "Prom War," based on a story by Tom Franck and
Steven Kurtz, will be his first project with the company. Cathy Konrad
("Cop Land") will produce the film. She is responsible for bringing
Hecker to the attention of Miramax after screening a rough cut of his
not yet completed AFI thesis film, "Family Attraction," starring Chris
Penn and Martin Sheen.
In a prepared statement Hecker said, "Miramax is an amazing company, and
I couldn't be happier to be part of the team. I'm so excited to work
with people who believe that commercial success and artistic integrity
aren't mutually exclusive."
