19th IFP Gotham Independent Film Awards set IFP announced that the 19th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards will return for the second year to Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, on Tuesday, December 1st. Additionally, the group is now accepting submissions for five of its six competitive categories, including: Best Feature, Best Documentary, Breakthrough Actor, Breakthrough Director and Best Ensemble Performance. Consideration for the sixth competitive award, Best Film Not Playing at a Theater Near You, is by invitation only. The deadline for submissions is 5pm EST on Monday, September 21st.
SXSW-winning documentary “45365” will be exclusively screened for one week starting Friday on the SnagFilms.com Distribution Network. SnagFilms will feature “45365” as the second film for its online SummerFest. Directed by Bill and Turner Ross, the film portrays the daily life of residents in the small American town of Sidney, Ohio.
The National Board of Review will hold their annual awards gala on Tuesday, January 12th, 2010, at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. The NBR, celebrating its centennial year, also announced that they have awarded $100,000 in student grants to 10 university film schools, The Children’s Aid Society, The Ghetto Film School and Reel Works Teen Filmmaking. The National Board of Review will screen approximately 300 films for awards consideration in 2009. This year’s winners will be announced on Thursday, December 3rd.
This week the Woods Hole Film Festival welcomes a number of notable actors and individuals to the festival. On Monday, hippie icon and Woodstock emcee Wavy Gravy attended the festival with director Michelle Esrick for the New England premiere of “Saint Misbehavin’: The Wavy Gravy Story.” On Wednesday, July 29th at 7:00 PM actress Michelle Monaghan (“Mission Impossible”) will be at the festival with director James Mottern for the film “Trucker.” On Thursday, July 30th at 7:00 PM, actor Joey Pantoliano (Joey “Pants”) brings his film “No Kidding, Met Too” to the festival and will participate in a panel discussion about the portrayal of mental illness in the entertainment industry. Finally, on Saturday, August 1st, “The Simpsons” writer and executive producer Ian Maxtone Graham will participate in a Q&A with former LA producer Beth Colt about his life with the popular animated television series from 4-6:00 PM.
