Greengrass’s “Green Zone” Heads To 2010

The upcoming awards season has one less Matt Damon vehicle in contention, as Paul Greengrass’s Iraq-set “Green Zone” has been moved from a late 2009 release date to March 12, 2010. A thriller about a pair of CIA agents on the trail of certain Weapons of Mass Destruction and a foreign correspondent following their mission, “Zone” marks a reteaming of Damon and his “Bourne” director Greengrass. The move might help Damon’s Oscar chances overall, though, leaving more room for his work in Clint Eastwood’s “Invictus” and Steven Soderbergh’s “The Informant!”

Hollywood Prop House Auction

20th Century Props in North Hollywood, California is auctioning off its inventory from Tuesday through Saturday Aug. 1 and plans to close. Hollywood’s second-largest prop house is going out of business with its owner saying he has fallen victim to film and TV production leaving California for other U.S. states that lure producers with tax incentives and fewer restrictions. Reuters reports.

Talking “Adam” with director Max Mayer and Hugh Dancy

At first the British actor Hugh Dancy seemed to be entirely wrong to play the title character in “Adam,” said Max Mayer, the film’s writer and director. The trouble was that Mr. Dancy, 34, seemed too charming, too intuitive, too easy in himself—just right for a movie like “Ella Enchanted” (he played Prince Charmont) but not so perfect for a character who was not so perfect. FilmBuff goes live

Cinetic’s FilmBuff cable VOD channel is now live, and to celebrate, they’ve uploaded a new clip from Michael Almereyda’s feature, “New Orleans Mon Amour,” starring Elisabeth Moss and Christopher Eccleston. Also in the mix is a trailer for Dave McLaughlin’s “On Broadway,” and a look back at the “Madonna pap smear” scene from 1991’s “Slacker.”

FSLC hosts screening and debate about Conservatives for “Kansas”

Film Society of Lincoln Center is hosting a screening of “What’s the Matter with Kansas?” and discussion with New York Observer national correspondent Joe Conason and New York Times editor Chris Suellentrop with National Review Online editor Kathryn Jean Lopez and conservative author and editor Ryan Sager.  Filmmakers Laura Cohen, producer, and Joe Winston, director, will also serve on the panel, taking place Thursday, August 6th, Walter Reade Theatre. - The New York Children’s International Film Festival will host a pre-release screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Ponyo” on Sunday, August 9.

- VH1 and VH1 Classic will present the television premiere of “Anvil! The Story of Anvil” on Saturday, October 3 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT as part of its Emmy Award-winning VH1 Rock Doc franchise. The documentary made its world premiere at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and opened theatrically on April 10. VH1 Films will release the DVD on October 6.

- Ben Lyons, E! Entertainment Television personality and co-host of the nationally syndicated, “At the Movies,” will host the 5th annual HollyShorts Film Festival (HSFF) opening night celebration, which takes place on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the DGA Theatre in Hollywood.
