Film Sales Company takes on Stone’s “South of the Border” The Film Sales Company’s Andrew Herwitz announced that it has signed on to represent the North American rights to Oliver Stone’s documentary “South of The Border” on the eve of its US premiere in New York at an event hosted by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and timed to coincide with the annual United Nations General Assembly. The film, which premiered internationally last month at the Venice Film Festival, explores the “complicated relationship between the United States and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, a figure who engenders extreme reactions worldwide and delves more generally into how the US often responds when it finds tself with an agenda at odds with the policies and stances pursued by many of its South American neighbors.” Among those expected on hand for the NY screening include Oliver Stone, much of the cast of “Wall Street,” which he is currently shooting in NYC, President Hugo Chavez of Venezuala, President Evo Morales of Bolivia and other South American leaders. (Editor’s Note: indieWIRE will be covering the event Wednesday night.)
