"Beasts Of The Southern Wild."
It's a big day for pint-sized star Quvenzhané Wallis. Hours before the "Beasts of the Southern Wild" breakout hits up the Academy Awards ceremony in support of her Best Actress nomination, Columbia Pictures today confirmed the actress will play the titular role in their contemporary remake of "Annie."
The film, directed by "Easy A" helmer Will Gluck, is slated to open wide over the holiday season in 2014. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter, Jay Brown, James Lassiter, Tyran 'Ty Ty' Smith are producing.
Emma Thompson penned the first draft of the screenplay, which has since been rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna. Gluck is said to be currently revising the script.
Wallis is next set to appear in Steve McQueen's follow-up to "Shame," "Twelve Years a Slave," opposite Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender.
