Yesterday, we reported that Reddit, the news aggregation site, warned film marketers not to try to spam the site, citing Warner Bros. employees who posted excessively about "Getaway."
Reddit has since issued a retraction, which makes it clear that the questionable posts about "Getaway" came from a "third party who had no affiliation with Warner Bros. This third party was not part of the marketing efforts of Warner Bros. for the film."
In a statement, the company said, "We regret confusion about the source of these posts, and appreciate the cooperation and understanding of Warner Bros. who has taken this as seriously as we do and has very strict policies on these matters."
For its part, Warner Bros. said in a statement yesterday, "We absolutely do not do business that way as part of our film marketing."
That said, Reddit still cautions film marketers: "We take spamming, cheating, vote-rigging, and any other manipulation of reddit very seriously."
You've been warned.
