Samuel Goldwyn Films Secures U.S. Rights to 'The German Doctor'

Samuel Goldwyn Films has acquired all U.S. rights to writer-director Lucía Puenzo’s ("XXY") "The German Doctor." "The German Doctor" which screened in Un Certain Regard at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival under its Argentinian title "Wakolda," follows Josef Mengele, the “Angel of Death” of the Aushchwitz concentration camp and his years spent hiding in South America following his escape.

The German SS officer and physician was considered to be one of WWII’s most heinous Nazi war criminals and it is widely speculated that Mengele continued his human experimentation after he fled Germany and during his years in South America.

Goldwyn plans a Spring 2014 release.

Interesting semantics in title. It's not The Nazi Doctor, it's The German Doctor- lumping it all together gives nationality a continuing bad name...
