Samuel Goldwyn Films and Fireworks Pictures will distribute director Dan Ireland's latest film, "Passionada." Set in the fishing community of New Bedford, MA, the movie is a romance story about a Portuguese-American family steeped in old traditions who face clashes with contemporary values. The film stars Sofia Milos ("The Sopranos") as a single mother who is tempted by a sexy stranger, played by Jason Isaacs. "Passionada" also stars Emmy Rossum, who plays the daughter and Lupe Ontiveros as the "meddling mother-in-law."

"This is a feel good film full of charm, merriment, and the heart of Portuguese culture," said Samuel Goldwyn president Meyer Gottlieb in a prepared statement. "I fell in love with Sofia as will everyone else. She reminds me of Julia Roberts from Samuel Goldwyn's 'Mystic Pizza.'" Gottlieb and David Bakalar negotiated the deal with his attorneys, Jim Janowitz, and Karen Robson.

Ireland's previous work includes "The Whole Wide World." Another upcoming theatrical release from Goldwyn/Fireworks is Toronto favorite "Raising Victor Vargas" by Peter Sollett.
