Three-time Academy Award nominee Annette Bening will be the recipient of this year's American Riviera Award at the 26th Santa Barbara International Film Festival in January. Bening will be honored for her performance in Lisa Cholodenko's "The Kids Are All Right" and "Mother and Child" by Rodrigo Garcia. Bening will pick up the honor at the Arlington Theatre on Friday, January 28. Bening was previously honored in 2005.
The American Riviera Award was established to "recognize an actor who has had a strong influence on American Cinema." Previous honorees include Sandra Bullock (2010), Mickey Rourke (2009), Tommy Lee Jones (2008), Forrest Whitaker (2007), Philip Seymour Hoffman (2006), Kevin Bacon (2005) and Diane Lane (2004).
"I fell in love with Annette Bening the moment I saw her on Broadway in Coastal Disturbances in 1987," commented SBIFF Executive Director Roger Durling in a statement. "It was one of those 'a star is born' moments. Ever since, she's been one of my favorite actresses, and she will always have a home here at the festival."
The 26th SBIFF will take place January 27 - February 6, 2011.
