Singer To Direct PSA's About HIV
Director Bryan Singer ("The Usual Suspects") has signed on to direct a series of star-studded public service announcements for the Pedro Zamora Foundation. Zamora was the HIV+ character on MTV's "The Real World," who passed away shortly after the show went off the air. The goal of the campaign is "to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS among America's youth, by educating them in a culturally and age appropriate manner." Topics to be covered include the dangers of drugs and alcohol, homophobia and AIDS discrimination and building self-esteem to resist pressure to experiment with high-risk behaviors.
Will Smith has been approached to star in one spot as a man proud to buy condoms in a small store, so proud that he asks for them on the loud speaker. Madonna has been asked to play a woman who tries condoms on different vegetables. While Arnold Schwarzenegger would participate by holding up a broken condom and saying, "Hasta la vista, baby." Other stars that have been asked to participate include Clint Eastwood and Tom Hanks. The spots were designed by the Chiat/Day advertising agency.
