Six Indie Films Set for New Madstone Series
by Eugene Hernandez
Six new independent films will be screened at Madstone Theaters nationwide as part of new series dubbed Film Forward. The program, to be held at Madstone venues in San Diego, Phoenix, Denver, Cleveland, Ann Arbor, and Albuquerque will include indie projects that have been hits on the domestic film festival circuit. It will kick-off in May and run through mid-June.
Set for the series, which is sponsored by MAC Cosmetics, are Mia Trachinger's "Bunny," Derek Simonds' "Seven and a Match," Tony Gerber's "Side Streets," JT Petty's "Soft for Digging," Richard W. Bean's "Tattoo, A Love Story," and Sergio Castilla's "Te Amo."
"There have been a multitude of very fine films that have never made their way into theaters, and by launching Film Forward, Madstone is giving filmmakers and audiences a chance to discover each other and flourish -- minus the barriers that have long divided them," said Madstone CEO Chip Seelig. "Madstone's Film Forward is dedicated to finding uncommonly appealing films and giving them a chance to find and grow audiences outside the traditional system."
Two of the features will be paired and each will screen for two weeks at the Madstone theaters. Programming has been spearheaded by Lauren Mansfield, VP of alternative programming for the company.
