Small Planet Set with a Number of New Films
by Eugene Hernandez
Indie distributor Small Planet Pictures has nabbed a pair of new films. The company will release Todd Stephens' "Gypsy 83" as well as Robert Capelli Jr.'s "Mail Order Bride." Stephens' film is debuting in February, while Capelli's movie, which stars Danny Aiello, is opening this weekend.
Stephen's "Gypsy 83" follows two outcast dreaming of escaping from a small town where they don't fit in. A hit at New York's New Fest, the Austin Film Festival, and the Toronto Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the movie includes a stellar soundtrack of music including The Cure, Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees. Stephens is best known for his previous feature "Edge of Seventeen."
Capelli's "Bride" is described as a "madcap action comedy" that follows a mob boss sent to Russia to find a scam artist mail order bride. Aiello stars with Ivana Milicevic and Vincent Pastore.
Small Planet is also planning an upcoming release on Daniel Kay's "Way Off Broadway," the story of five New York City friends struggling to transition into their lives as graduates.
Recent Small Planet releases include Hilary Birmingham's "Tully," Helen Lesnick's "A Family Affair," Eric Byler's "Charlotte Sometimes," and Danny Provenzano's "This Thing of Ours."
