SnagFilms has acquired U.S. distribution rights to "Decoding Deepak," a documentary about pop-culture icon Deepak Chopra directed by his son, Gotham Chopra.
The film premiered at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year and will receive a day-and-date theatrical and pay-platform release in October.
"Decoding Deepak" is a son's look at his famous father, flaws and all, with an in-depth look at Deepak Chopra's spiritual empire as well as his relationships to family as well as his famous friends.
“We loved Decoding Deepak from its first screening, as have festival audiences around the country,” said SnagFilms CEO Rick Allen in a statement. “A unique and personal film, it will appeal to follower and skeptic alike, and we are excited to bring it to American viewers via a broad range of distribution platforms.”
“I’m so thrilled to have a partner in SnagFilms to bring this project to such a wide audience,” Gotham Chopra said. “Now when my father kills me for putting a camera behind the curtain, it will not all have been in vain.”
Deepak Chopra responded, "When you look into a mirror you don't always see what others do. To decode someone is to unravel many perspectives. Gotham did a good and honest job."
SnagFilms is the parent company of Indiewire.
Decoding Deepak is presented by NALA Investments in association with Houseblend Media. It is a Gotham Chopra Film, directed and written by Gotham Chopra, executive produced by Emilio Diez Barroso and Darlene Caamano Loquet produced by Gotham Chopra, Scott Carlin and Mark Rinehart.
