Spielberg Announces Doc Branch of Shoah Foundation

by indieWIRE

Steven Spielberg announced the formation of Visual History Films, a branch
of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, at the 1997 IDA
Distinguished Documentary Achievement Awards Gala. The filmmaker was
honored with the Amicus Award for the foundation's commitment in
documenting Holocaust survivor testimonials. As an extension, the new
organization will "will draw from the Shoah Foundation's archive of
Holocaust survivor testimony to create documentary films, emphasizing
foreign languages for audiences around the world,'' said Spielberg.
Eventually, Spielberg hopes that Visual History will collaborate with
others who have been documenting testimonies from other events in world
history.

Founding executive directors of the Shoah Foundation, June Beallor and
James Moll, will oversee Visual History Films. Moll and Beallor are
producers at DreamWorks who produced the two-time Emmy Award-winning
"Survivors of the Holocaust" for the Shoah Foundation in 1995.
