"Squid" at $30k Per Screen in Opening Weekend

Noah Baumbach's "The Squid & The Whale" (a Samuel Goldwyn/Sony release that opened Wednesday) debuted with an estimated first weekend gross of $123,708 on 4 screens, a $30,927 per screen average. The estimated gross, since opening on Wed. on 2 screens is $148,338. In an email reporting grosses, Michael Silberman from IDP noted that the film had "tremendous Manhattan openings," earning $51,855 at the Angelika Film Center. It also debuted at the Lincoln Plaza cinemas and added theaters in Brooklyn and Westchester. [Eugene Hernandez]
