Michael Williams has been appointed as Vice President of Theatrical Sales and Acquisitions by Co-Presidents Jon Gerrans and Marcus Hu, it was announced today.
Williams' most recent work has been with The Walt Disney Company, as a marketing and production consultant to Disney Channel. He produced exclusive programming to promote Disney & Marvel Studios theatrical & home entertainment releases. Prior to that, he worked for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment in the production and localization of synergy programming for Disney Channel worldwide and oversaw strategic third-party partnerships globally. In his first position at Disney, Williams was the studios' Director of Field Marketing, overseeing local agencies across the U.S. and Canada in the publicity and promotion of their titles.
"We're thrilled to welcome Mike to the team and hope his long term relationships in the industry flourish," said Gerrans. "Mike has been a longtime friend and colleague, one that I respect tremendously, I am very happy to have him join our family," added Hu.
Williams' fourteen years working in the "indie" film world was of particular interest to Strand, where Mike played several key marketing and publicity roles at nationwide "art house" exhibitor Landmark Theatres. His work at Landmark Theatres included Director of Publicity & Promotion and acting Head of Marketing.
His new position at Strand will bring him full-circle, back to his first love of independent and foreign-language films where he started.
He is thrilled to be working with exhibitors across the U.S. to showcase Strand's terrific upcoming slate of films. And excited to help Strand acquire new theatrical titles in the worldwide market.
Among Strand's upcoming slate are: BALLPLAYER: PELOTERO, an insider's look at Major League Baseball's recruiting efforts in the Dominican Republic; BONSAI, a youthful film about sex, lies and literature has the awkward charm of first love; OSLO, AUGUST 31ST, one day in the life of Anders, a young recovering drug addict and UNFORGIVABLE, Andre Techine's intricate tale of the complex relationships and history between friends, lovers and family.
