Santa Monica-based Strand Releasing has picked up the North American
distribution rights to Jesse Peretz's debut feature, "First Love, Last Rites", a month before the film is set to screen at the Sundance
Film Festival (the film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival).
The film stars Giovanni Ribisi ("Suburbia"), Natasha Gregson Wagner
("Lost Highway") and Robert John Burke ("The Unvelievable Truth"),
and was produced for Forensic Films by Scott Macaulay, Robin O'Hara
and Herbert Biegel.
Macaulay told indieWIRE yesterday that the producers had been "in
negotiations with several companies since Toronto and felt that Strand's
enthusiasm for the film and their commitment to marketing it to the art
house and youth audience were important to us." To be released
simultaneously with the film by Epic Records, the soundtrack was
written by Nathan Larson and Craig Wedron and performed by Shudder
to Think (Larson, Wedron and Stuart Hill) and sung by vocalists such as
John Doe, Matt Johnson (The The), Nina Persson (The Cardigans), Robin
Zander and Liz Phair.
