Strand Releasing unveiled another deal this week, this time for U.S. rights to Jay DiPietro's "Peter and Vandy," which had its debut at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Strand's Jon Gerrans negotiated the deal with Endeavor Independent's Liesl Copland, on behalf of the filmmakers in Cannes.
Starring Jason Ritter as Peter and Jess Weixler as Vandy, the feature is a love story told out of order. Shifting back and forth between Peter and Vandy's romantic beginnings and the twisted-manipulative-regular couple they become, the film is a puzzle that tries to define the nature of love. The film will close the upcoming Provincetown Film Festival and will be released in autumn 2009.
"Strand's films are always personal, artful and unexpected. I'm proud to be working with them," said DiPietro in a statement. The film was produced by Dipietro, Peter Sterling of Cook Street Productions, and Austin Stark, Benji Kohn and Bingo Gubelmann of Paper Street Films. International sales are being handled by Ron Gell at G-Machine.
