Sundance 2013: Magnolia Pictures Goes Back for More With 'S-VHS'

After a days-long tug-of-war between Lionsgate and Magnolia Pictures, the latter has finally nailed down a deal for U.S. rights to the horror anthology “S-VHS” at the Sundance Film Festival. One source puts the deal for the Park City at Midnight selection at just north of $1 million.

A sequel to “V/H/S,” which had its premiere at the 2012 Sundance festival before Magnolia picked it up for its Magnet label, “S-VHS” tells a quartet of creepy stories wrapped together by a fifth narrative device. The contributing directors include Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Edúardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Timo Tjahjanto, Gareth Huw Evans and Jason Eisener.

WME Global repped the sale for the producers.

Magnolia also acquired David Gordon Green’s “Prince Avalanche” and (with CNN Films) the documentary “Blackfish” during the festival.
