Momoa is probably best known for his memorable role as Khal Drogo in season one of "Game of Thrones." He also played the title character in the 2011 "Conan the Barbarian" and starred for four seasons on "Stargate: Atlantis." Julianne Nicholson, it was previously announced, has been cast as a female lead.
"The Red Road" is an hourlong drama that has been picked up for a six episode season. It's the creation of writer Aaron Guzikowski ("Contraband," "Prisoners") with producer Sarah Condon (“Bored to Death”), and will be executive produced by both, with Bridget Carpenter (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood”) also serve as an EP and the showrunner. The series revolves around two clashing communities -- a small town and its neighboring Ramapo Mountain Indian tribe - and the sheriff who polices both while getting involved with a dangerous member of the tribe after a tragedy involving his wife.
Sundance Channel's had a lot of success with its scripted series, receiving ten Emmy nominations yesterday for miniseries "Top of the Lake" and "Restless." Its first wholly owned original drama "Rectify," which premiered in April, has been critically acclaimed and was renewed for a second season to air in 2014.
