Sundance Selects Takes Ozon's 'Beautiful' Out of Cannes

Sundance Selects has acquired U.S. rights to Francois Ozon's Cannes Film Festival competition title 'Young & Beautiful.'

CANNES, FRANCE (May 22, 2013) – Sundance Selects announced today from the 2013 Cannes Film Festival that the company is acquiring U.S. rights to writer-director François Ozon's YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL from Wild Bunch. The film, with a star-making turn by Marine Vacth in thelead role, also stars Geraldine Pailhas, Frederic Pierrot, Fantin Ravat, Johan Leysen, Charlotte Rampling, Nathalie Richard, Djedje Apali, Lucas Prisor, Laurent Delbecque, Jeanne Ruff, and Serge Hefez.  Produced by Eric & Nicolas Altmayer, and with a screenplay by Ozon, YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL made its world premiere this week in Competition at the festival.Ozon’s film SWIMMING POOL was in Competition at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
 
Ozon's YOUNG & BEAUTIFUL is a provocative drama about a young woman coming of age from her sexual awakening to the loss of her virginity, and from her exploration of love to her search for her identity.

We were all blown away by the incredible performance from Marine Vacth and can’t wait for our audiences in the U.S. to be too.”  Sundance Selects’ sister label IFC Films previously released two films from Ozon -- ANGEL and RICKY.                    

The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco, Senior Vice President ofAcquisitions & Productions for Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Carole Baraton and Henri Fabre at Wild Bunch on behalf of the filmmakers.

This marks the third acquisition deal during the festival for Sundance Selects who struck a deal today for U.S. rights to Abdellatif Kechiche’s BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR, also playing in the Competition section; as well U.S. rights to Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne’s TWO DAYS, ONE NIGHT starring Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, which is currently in pre-production.
 
Sundance Selects is a sister label to IFC Films and IFC Midnight, and is owned and operated by AMC Networks Inc.

    Young and Beautiful has had a lot of buzz around it and I look forward to seeing what all the fuss is about when it comes out in the UK.
