Sundance Institute and Sundance Channel have announced a deal to distribute short films from the upcoming Sundance Film Festival via iTunes. Launching on January 22, 2007, the shorts will be priced at 1.99 (US) each with a portion of the receipts going to the filmmakers. Free podcasts from the fest will also be available for free via iTunes during the event. Additionally, beginning January 18 (and continuing through April 18) the festival website will again offer free downloads of select short films. In a statement, Institute head Robert Redford said, "I have felt, from the earliest days, that if people really care about independent film, they should pay particular attention to short filmmakers, who are the best indicators of what is coming down the creative pike."
