Sundance Teams Up with Starbucks and U.S. Satellite
The President of the Sundance Channel, Nora Ryan, announced
earlier today that her company has formed an alliance with Starbucks Coffee
Company and U.S. Satellite Broadcasting to initiate a nationwide promotional
and marketing campaign which will allow people unable to make it to the 1997
Sundance Film Festival to view live highlights of the event. The Sundance
Channel will host viewing parties in 11 U.S. cities during the course of the
festival, which is slated to take place in Park City, UT, from January 16-26,
1997. The parties will take place at various Starbucks locations, where
screenings of films from past Sundance fests will supplement the live
coverage of events such as the closing night ceremonies. The parties will be
held in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis/St. Paul,
Baltimore, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Washington, and Chicago.
U.S. Satellite Broadcasting, a multichannel movie and entertainment cable
system via its Digital Satellite System, will provide coverage of the
Sundance festival on its USSB Channel 999. The programming company will also
broadcast select portions of its Sundance reportage at selected Starbucks
locations. On January 26 at 10 pm, the Sundance Channel will televise a
program featuring commentary, interviews, and summaries of the festival.
Starbucks Coffee will also be hosting a hospitality center at the
festival.
