Insiders at the SXSW Film Festival can connect daily with filmmakers and stars in Austin at our afternoon talk series beginning this Monday. Over four days from 2PM to 3PM, SXSW pass holders attending the festival (filmmakers, industry and press, or whoever has something around their neck looking official) can settle down to watch the talks and ask questions to the talent.
This year guests include, all the filmmakers behind the foud-footage horror film "V/H/S"; actor-turned-filmmaker Matthew Lillard ("The Descendants"); "Casa de mi Padre" director Matt Piedmont; and four music documentary filmmakers.
'Go Behind the Scenes With Indiewire at the Next Stage,' runs March 12-15 on the Next Stage in the SXSW Trade Show. Go HERE for additional venue information.
The schedule follows:
Austin-based filmmaking siblings David and Nathan Zellner will discuss their latest, "Kid Thing." The pair will be joined by another directing duo, Brian M. Cassidy and Melanie Shatzky, the married couple behind "Francine," starring Melissa Leo.
2:30PM-3PM: Ti West, Adam Wingard, Joe Swanberg, David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid and Radio Silence ("V/H/S")
Horror fans won't want to miss this chat. All seven directors behind the Sundance found-footage phenomenon, "V/H/S" (Ti West, Adam Wingard, Joe Swanberg, David Bruckner, Glenn McQuaid and Radio Silence) will be on hand to talk about the collaborative project. They'll be joined by producer and founder of BloodyDisgusting.com, Brad Miska.
2PM-2:30PM: Matthew Lillard ("Fat Kid Rules the World")
Acclaimed actor Matthew Lillard ("The Descendants," "Scream") is at SXSW with his feature directorial debut. The star will chat with Indiewire about his first foray behind the camera.
2:30PM-3PM: Matt Piedmont ("Case de mi Padre")
Emmy Award winning "Saturday Night Live" writer-turned-director, Matt Piedmont, will discuss directing Will Ferrell in his gonzo comedy, "Casa de mi Padre."
SXSW is known for screening some of the best music documentaries out there, no surprise given the SXSW Music sidebar, and Austin's thriving musical scene. At this Indiewire panel Malik Bendjellouol ("Searching for Sugar Man"), Amir Bar-Lev ("Re:Generation Music Project"), Jay Bulger ("Beware of Mr. Baker") and Mark Ford ("Uprising: Hip Hop & the LA Riots") will talk about their music documentaries.
2:30PM-3PM: Women Director Panel: Martha Stephens ("Pilgrim Song"), Amy Siemetz ("Sun Don’t Shine") and Meagan Griffiths ("Eden")
Directors Martha Stephens ("Pilgrim Song"), Amy Siemetz ("Sun Don’t Shine") and Meagan Griffiths ("Eden") will all be on hand to discuss their films, and making it as a female director in the independent film world.
Independent filmmaker Caveh Zahedi ("I Am a Sex Addict") is out to ruffle some feathers with his latest documentary, in which he uses money from a Middle Eastern Biennial to make a film making fun of the event. Zahedi, who was threatened with a fatwa, will delve into the making of his project.
2:30PM-3PM: The SXSW Talk: Janet Pierson, Brent Grulke and Louis Black
SXSW Film head honcho Janet Pierson will be joined by SXSW Creative Director Brent Grulke and SXSW co-founder and Senior Director Louis Black to discuss this year's event with Indiewire.
