When news surfaced in August that Eddie Murphy and Shawn Ryan (creator of "Last Resort" and "The Shield") had sold a TV adaptation of "Beverly Hills Cop" to CBS, the big question was who would star in the show. Murphy, who's acting as executive producer, is also committed to reprise his role as Axel Foley in the pilot and in occasional episodes to follow, should the project get picked up to series, but the focus of the show is on Axel's son, who heads to Beverly Hills to get out from under the shadow of his father, now Detroit's chief of police.

Now, TV Guide is reporting that actor and comedian Brandon T. Jackson has nabbed the coveted role of Aaron Foley. The 28-year-old, who is from Detroit, appeared in "Roll Bounce," "Tropic Thunder" and "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief," and has the dubious distinction of playing the son of a cop in another police comedy franchise -- "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son," where he took over for Jascha Washington in the role of Trent Pierce, the stepson of FBI agent Malcolm Turner (Martin Lawrence).

The "Beverly Hills Cop" TV series is being planned as an hourlong buddy comedic procedural, so now we're just waiting on who'll inherit the new generation Judge Reinhold part.

Spike TV is airing a two-hour tribute to Murphy's career as a comedian and actor tonight at 10pm, with Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Tracy Morgan, Arsenio Hall and others making appearances.
