HBO is developing a half-hour fictional comedy set in the world of electronic music, according to Deadline. Titled "Higher," the series will be written by "Trainspotting" author Irvine Welsh and developed by UK DJ Calvin Harris.
The potential show will be executive produced by James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Will Smith and Miguel Melendez of Overbrook Entertainment, Mark Gillespie and Dean Wilson of Three Six Zero Group, and Harris, Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, Jay Brown, and Tyran "Ty Ty" Smith of Marcy Media -- quite a lineup. This is the second collaboration between Smith and Jay-Z, following their new film production of "Annie" this December.
"Higher" continues Harris' successful year, following his Grammy nominations for Best Dance Recording for "Sweet Nothing" and Best Dance/Electronica Album for "18 Months." Harris has sold one million albums and 28 million singles since the album's release last October.
