The series, which currently stars Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, James Cromwell, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Lizzie Brocheré and Joseph Fiennes, has been a ratings and social media champ for FX that's competed with offerings on the big four channels, with Wednesday's episode "I Am Anne Frank (Part 2)" topping all broadcast networks in its time slot among Adults 18-34 and ranking third in that demographic in primetime behind "Modern Family" and "The X Factor."
In the announcement from FX, the network's president and general manager John Landgraf said that "With 'American Horror Story: Asylum,' Ryan and Brad have raised the bar in every way from 'Murder House,' the first 'American Horror Story' miniseries. And their original idea - the notion of doing an anthological series of miniseries with a repertory cast - has proven groundbreaking, wildly successful and will prove to be trendsetting. We can't wait to see what deviously brilliant ideas they come up with for their third miniseries."
The new season will shoot next summer and premiere in fall of 2013, with many of the actors who've appeared in the series before returning in new roles -- Lange is already confirmed.

I am so excited about American Horror Story coming back for another season! This show, because itâs a mini series, is so versatile and each season we get something new. Just like last season, the promos leading up to the season premiere puzzled me to no end and I was itching to find out what was up next. You just never know with SOA so Iâve got my DISH Hopper recording the show each week. Itâs four times more recording space than all the other DVRs out there which means I donât have to rush to watch everything Iâve recorded. With the way this season is working out I wonât even begin to guess what the next season is about. My DISH co-worker is excited to hear that Jessica Lange will be back next season. Well why not? She is absolutely amazing!

Nothing interesting in this second season. Just a bunch of cliches put together without making any sense.

Has anyone else noted the striking similarities between American Horror Story: Asylum and Sam Fuller's Shock Corridor (1963)?
