Good news for fans of Adam Reed's profanely funny animated comedy "Archer" -- FX just handed the spy show a renewal notice.
Executive produced by Reed and Matt Thompson, "Archer," which is currently is the midst of a fourth season set to wrap with a two-part finale on April 11, will be getting another 13-episode fifth season from FX. Per the press release, when notified of the season five pick-up, Reed said, "Thank God." When Reed notified Thompson of the season five pick-up, Thompson replied, "Called it."
"Archer" is centered around the hard-drinking, womanizing super spy/asshole of the title, voiced by H. Jon Benjamin, and his colleagues at ISIS, the International Secret Intelligence Service, voiced by Aisha Tyler, Jessica Walter, Judy Greer, Chris Parnell and others. In its fourth year, it's still outrageous and amusing in the ways its extravagant espionage missions are really only backdrops for what is, at heart, a workplace comedy. The show's particularly strong in its ratings with the coveted male 18-34 demographic.
Anthony Bourdain will provide the voice of irascible celebrity chef Lance Casteau in tomorrow night's episode, "Live and Let Dine."
