HBO Films has set a release date for its star-studded feature "The Normal Heart," starring Mark Ruffalo and Julia Roberts. The adaptation of Larry Kramer's Tony Award-winning play will premiere May 25 at 9 pm ET on HBO.

Kramer adapted his own play for the screen -- fitting considering the autobiographical nature of the piece -- and Ryan Murphy ("Glee," "American Horror Story") served as director.

The play focuses on Ned Weeks (played by Ruffalo in the film), the founder of an HIV advocacy group, and his partner Felix Turner (Matt Bomer), who isn't as eager to join in Weeks' in-your-face campaign. Kitsch plays the president of Weeks' organization while Julia Roberts takes on the role of Emma Brookner, a wheelchair-bound polio survivor.

The film also stars Jim Parsons, Alfred Molina, and Denis O'Hare. Keep checking Indiewire for more updates on this anticipated release.
