Watch: This Collaborative Elle Fanning Short Will Air On Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Variety Show 'HitRECord on TV'

The short below, "First Stars I See Tonight," will air as part of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's upcoming variety show "HitRECord on TV," which debuts on Pivot on January 18th after making its world premiere at Sundance. Gordon-Levitt announced today that the first episode of the show will be released online for free on Monday, January 6th, so consider the video below an early taste. Here's his explanation of how short came into being:

Collaboratively made on our site, hitRECord.org, this short film began with a text record roswellgray (United States) contributed recounting the true story of the first time she ever saw the stars when she was 16 years old. I adapted the story into a script and KatSmash (Scotland) RECorded narration. We shot the actors Elle Fanning and James Patrick Stuart in front of a green screen and a ton of visual artists on the site began to illustrate the world around them. The animator 12.42 (United Kingdom) took visual contributions and animated them all together. megancarnes (United States) composed a beautiful musical score and musicians from all over the world played along.

Take a look:

Absolutely love "the First Stars I See Tonight."

Thanks for sharing and please do tell me when you have other projects. I would love to be a part of one as a SAG-AFTRA actress. These are special moments made as permanent memories.

The chances against a movie being good are astronomical: at every point of production and post, a poor or rushed decision can derail, or lessen the impact of the piece. FIRST STARS I SEE TONIGHT is that rare gem wherein every element from every contributor fits perfectly! This is wonder and joy wrapped simply and beautifully in under three minutes. Kudos and thanks to each and every for their heartfelt contribution. You made magic!
