John Oliver's Satirical HBO News Show Gets a Title and a Premiere Date

John Oliver on 'The Daily Show'

HBO has just announced "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" as the title for their new half-hour comedy series featuring Emmy award-winning writer John Oliver. The show, which will have Oliver satirizing current events, will premiere on April 27 at 11pm.

Oliver first came into the public eye after his highly successful political standup show in the U.K. He wrote and starred in the award-winning standup special "John Oliver: Terrifying Times" and the series "John Oliver's New York Standup Show," both which played on Comedy Central. His role as correspondent for "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," which he joined in 2006, has also garnered him acclaim, particularly last summer when he took over as host for Stewart as the latter was shooting his directorial debut.

"Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" will be produced for HBO by Avalon Television and executive-produced by Oliver, Tim Carvell, James Taylor and Jon Thoday.

Terrible name, especially for an HBO series. "Last Week Tonight" does not roll off the tongue very easily.
