M. Night Shyamalan is all about the small screen. Fox announced two new shows in development today and they're both large-scale limited series. "Wayward Pines" is based on the novel "Pines" by Blake Crouch ("Eerie," "Desert Places"), a thriller Fox describes as evocative of "Twin Peaks." It follows a Secret Service agent who arrives in the seemingly idyllic Idaho town of Wayward Pines to investigate two missing federal agents. The search takes an ominous turn, pushing the hero further from the life he knew and from the husband and father he was. Shyamalan will executive produce the series along with Chad Hodge ("The Playboy Club"), who wrote the script, Donald De Line ("Green Lantern") and Ashwin Rajan ("After Earth").

Fox also put "Blood Brothers" into production, based on the true story of West Point's class of 1861, when the academy broke apart due to the American Civil War, with friends who attended West Point serving on opposite sides of the conflict. Written by Bruce C. McKenna ("Band of Brothers," "The Pacific"), "Blood Brothers" will examine the ties and respect that endured between the characters even as they fought directly against each other, and the acts of kindness across enemy lines that resulted from this sense of connection. McKenna will executive produce the series alongside Gary Randall ("The Glades," "Saving Grace") and Timothy Scott Bogart ("Majors & Minors," "Touched") for Boardwalk Entertainment Group and Fox Television Studios.

Both limited series are being developed for debut in 2014. "With top-notch auspices and feature-quality production plans, 'Wayward Pines' and 'Blood Brothers' represent exactly the kind of high-impact, 10- to 12-part events we set out to develop when we entered the limited series business," said Kevin Reilly, Fox's Chairman of Entertainment. "These two series are the first of many big ideas, big names and big talent that you can anticipate will be on our air in the next 12-24 months."
