Yesterday, Netflix announced the acquisition of (and possibly entered the Academy Awardss race with) its first original documentary "The Square," Jehane Noujaim's film about the Egyptian Revolution and ongoing changes in the country.
Today the company's announced the second addition to its new doc slate -- "The Short Game," Josh Greenbaum's 2013 film about eight competitive golfers under the age of seven who train for and compete in the World Championship of Junior Golf. The film, which premiered at SXSW in March (where it won the Audience Award), will actually be the first doc acquisition to be launched on Netflix, ahead of "The Square," on Thursday, December 12th at 12:01am PT in all of the service's territories.
The film received an Oscar-qualifying theatrical release through Phase 4 Films and Samuel Goldwyn Films in September.

"The idea of people all across the world being able to watch the film is a dream come true." "The Short Game” is produced by Rafael Marmor, Christopher Leggett, and Josh Greenbaum, and executive produced by Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, Timm Oberwelland, John Battsek and David Frankel.
Netflix isn't the only new digital platform on which Greenbaum has found a perch -- he also directed "Behind the Mask," the Hulu original docuseries about sports mascots that premiered last week.
