No, Patton Oswalt Won't Really Be Giving Away Live Birds at the Spirit Awards This Year

After a strange announcement last week that Spirit Awards host Patton Oswalt would be giving away live birds instead of trophies at this year's ceremonies, IFC's confessed that it was all just a strange PR stunt and that there would be no animal prizes be handed out in Santa Monica this year.

After an odd announcement last week that Spirit Awards host Patton Oswalt would be giving away live birds instead of trophies at this year's ceremonies, IFC's confessed that it was all just a strange PR stunt and that there would be no animal prizes handed out in Santa Monica this year. And good thing -- as Oswalt confessed on a press call, "I have a paralyzing fear of birds. I don't think it'll affect my performance. We'll see!"

Instead, the network's released a new ad highlighting the hazards of having living, avian awards -- take a look below. The Spirit Awards will air, taped, on IFC on Saturday, March 1st at 10pm.
