PBS premiered six digital short films on its site this week -- part of a larger collection of 26, commissioned by the producers of the long-running PBS documentary series "Independent Lens" and "POV."
In a press release issued by PBS earlier today, Donald Thoms, Vice President of Programming and Talent Management called the network "the home for independent films," noting in particular the contributions of the programming provided by "Independent Lens" and "POV."
“This collection of original digital shorts," he said, "will introduce new audiences to the diverse and compelling content PBS offers from independent producers from across the country. In addition, this collection of short independent films will be a great run-up to the June launch of the Online Film Festival, which has become an annual event for short film fans.”
PBS will release the remaining 20 digital shorts in groups of four at the beginning of each month, starting next month. The third edition of PBS' popular Online Film Festival will take place June 16-July 31.
