HBO has a big, cinematic drama coming up with "True Detective," while Showtime has its own splashy new venture in "Penny Dreadful," its upcoming psychosexual horror series created by "Skyfall" and "Hugo" writer John Logan and executive produced by Sam Mendes, with "The Impossible" filmmaker Juan Antonio Bayona directing the first two episodes.
Set in Victorian London, "Penny Dreadful" will tie together the origin stories of various literary characters, including Victor Frankenstein and his monster, Dorian Gray and Count Dracula. Showtime's released a teaser featuring lead actress Eva Green and an apparent possession below. Josh Hartnett co-stars, and the cast also includes Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Harry Treadaway and Helen McCrory. The series premieres next year -- are you intrigued?
