This will be Bay's first real TV venture. "I'm excited to branch out into television," he says in the announcement, "especially doing a long-form series for STARZ, a network known for supporting cutting edge programming."
While there's a limit to the kind of explosions you can have in a story set in the 18th century, there's no doubt Bay will find a way -- and maybe he'll manage to fit some robot aliens in there as well. The series was created by showrunner and executive producer Jon Steinberg (the creator "Jericho" and "Human Target") and co-executive producer Robert Levine (“Touch”), and will shoot in Cape Town, South Africa.
Starz is current mid-run in period drama "Magic City," which it's already renewed for a second season.
Starz isn't the only channel getting on board (hyuck!) with the pirate thing -- Syfy is airing its own miniseries version of "Treasure Island" this Saturday.
