Showtime Developing Neo-Nazi Drama 'The 4th Reich'

Showtime's got terrorist congressmen, famously conniving Roman families and lovable serial killers, so a thriller about a neo-Nazi gang really isn't so out of place. Deadline reports that premium cable channel is developing "The 4th Reich," a crime drama about a former leader of a South Boston neo-Nazi group who's released from prison in order to inform on his old cohorts for the FBI.

Showtime's got terrorist congressmen, famously conniving Roman families and lovable serial killers, so a thriller about a neo-Nazi gang really isn't so out of place. Deadline reports that premium cable channel is developing "The 4th Reich," a crime drama about a former leader of a South Boston neo-Nazi group who's released from prison in order to inform on his old cohorts for the FBI.

Deadline says the project's "described as 'American History X' meets 'The Town,'" with the protagonist finding his teenage son has become part of the faction after having been taken under the wing of its new leader, his former best friend.

"The 4th Reich" was written by by Sonya Winton ("The Whole Truth," "Memphis Beat") and Jonathan Kidd and is being executive produced by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal for Tribeca Productions.

Tribeca also has a TV series adaptation of "The Good Shepherd" in development at Showtime, with De Niro, who helmed the film, set to direct and screenwriter Eric Roth on board to pen and executive produce the project.
