Starz is going forward with comedy "Survivor's Remorse," a half-hour scripted series from LeBron James, Tom Werner, Mike O’Malley, Maverick Carter and Paul Wachter. The show, which is set in the world of professional basketball and explores what happens when you make it out, is getting a six-episode first season that will premiere this fall.
Actor/writer O'Malley, whose most recent starring vehicle, the NBC sitcom "Welcome to the Family," was canceled in October, will serve as executive producer and writer. "Ever since I got cut from the freshman hoop team at Bishop Guertin High School in 1980, I've wanted to write about my love and hatred of basketball," he said. "Starz has given us great freedom to explore an authentic world inspired by Maverick and LeBron. Tom's legendary TV career and his experiences as a professional sports owner combined with Paul's wealth of business and entertainment industry relationships have given this team a truly strong foundation to build a successful series."
"Survivor's Guilt" is centered on Cam Calloway, a basketball phenom in his early 20s who's signed to multi-million dollar contract with a Georgia pro basketball team and moves there with his cousin Reggie Vaughn. The two deal with opportunistic family members and their ties to the community from which they came, as well as the rewards and pitfalls of stardom. The series will shoot in Atlanta. The cast has not yet been announced.
