Watch: Clive Owen Gets Gory In The First Teaser For Steven Soderbergh's Cinemax Medical Drama 'The Knick'

Steven Soderbergh's retirement from filmmaking hasn't stopped him from heading to the small screen to executive produce and direct "The Knick," a period drama starring Clive Owen as a doctor working at the Knickerbocker Hospital in New York in the early 1900s. The 10-episode series will premiere on Cinemax this summer, and the first teaser, below, presents a few bloody snapshots of early medicine more reminiscent of "Dexter" than "ER." Check out the video below:

I do not understand the marketing for this show. As the write up says, it seems they're going for "Dexter"-style promotion with the bloody imagery and the horror-esque sound effects. It seems they would be better off marketing this as a classy, HBO-type drama series, if that's what it is.

I think that it's way too early to presume what they're going for, to be honest. If this is the only marketing material out in the public (10 sec teaser) so far then it's impossible to compare it to anything at all. Keep in mind that the writer of the "write-up" does not work for, or speak for Cinemax; the Dexter thing is just what he supposes, personally.
