Tina Fey Producing New Sitcom For NBC Set On Fire Island

Less than a year after "30 Rock" wrapped up, Tina Fey is officially returning to NBC, according to Deadline. Fey's new project -- which she will executive produce along with "30 Rock" co-showrunner Robert Carlock -- won't have the extensive involvement the writer, actress and comedian brought to her seven-year run with Alec Baldwin and company. Instead, "30 Rock" writer-producer Colleen McGuinness will run the show with Fey and Carlock's backing.

But here's the really interesting part (at least as far as we're concerned). Deadline reports that the comedy -- "in the vein of 'Cheers'" -- would be a character-driven workplace series "where a young woman in search of reconnecting with her father finds a new home and family on Fire Island."

They didn't name the state, so we suppose there's a minuscule chance they mean this Fire Island, but in all likelihood they of course mean this oneWhich makes us want to assume the young woman in question finds herself in a real life "1 Girl, 5 Gays" situation or perhaps discovers that daddy's no longer pursuing the ladies and moves in with him and his Fire Island pals.

Both potential situations would normally make us a little weary that the sitcom was simply headed for an explosion of repetitive stereotypes and generalizations (particularly since it's on the same network that just gave us "The New Normal"), but with Fey as one of the folks behind the wheel we have nothing but excitement.

Nice idiotic stereotypes, indiewire. Fire Island has 17 different communities. 2 of the 17 are gay. That means 15 out of 17 (or 88% for those of you at indiewire who are mathematically-challenged) are NOT gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.) Morons.
