Babies disappear. People in white robes disturb the peace. Liv Tyler finally shows up. These are the events in the new trailer for Damon Lindelof's upcoming HBO show, "The Leftovers." We've seen glimpses in some teasers of the past, but we get a lot of firsts in the nearly three-minute spot shown below.

Starring Justin Theroux as a local cop who thinks being left behind is a good thing, "The Leftovers" tells the story of a small town population collectively on the brink of disaster. A baby disappears in the first few seconds, along with a young boy's dad. These moments pull at your heart strings -- though the statue of a mother reaching for her baby as he's pulled to heaven is a bit tacky -- while the rest makes you wonder what really went down that fateful day.

The pilot is directed by Peter Berg, the veteran behind "Lone Survivor" and "Friday Night Lights." There's plenty of promise here, but Lindelof's name carries enough baggage, for some, to make them forget everything they hear and see. Check out the trailer and the new poster below.
