If the words "Clive Owen directed by Steven Soderbergh" weren't enough to get you excited about the upcoming Cinemax series "The Knick," here's the first trailer, which features Owen praising "modern" medicine (the show is set 114 years in the past) while chaos swirls around him.

If the words "Clive Owen directed by Steven Soderbergh" weren't enough to get you excited about the upcoming Cinemax series "The Knick," here's the first trailer, which features Owen praising "modern" medicine (the show is set 114 years in the past) while chaos swirls around him.

Moving at a steady but intense pace, the trailer doesn't feature much of the cast (which includes André Holland, Eve Hewson, Juliet Rylance, Michael Angarano, Maya Kazan and Matt Frewer) but does promise horse-drawn carriages and old-timey surgery. Even from this first glimpse, "The Knick" looks like nothing currently on the airwaves, which is always a good thing -- but hopefully, you're not too squeamish.

Watch the trailer below -- the series premieres August 8th at 10pm.
