Syfy has released the first trailer and an official premiere date for "Helix," the new thriller series from "Battlestar Galactica" showrunner Ronald D. Moore.

The 13-episode series has a premise that's reminiscent of "The Thing" as it follows a team of Centers for Disease Control researchers who travel to a high-tech research facility in the Arctic to investigate a possible disease outbreak, only to find themselves in a frantic battle with a virus that could annihilate mankind and that seems to be more than just a deadly infection. "Helix" stars Billy Campbell as the leader of the CDC team and Hiroyuki Sanada as the director of Arctic Biosystems. The show is executive produced by Moore, Lynda Obst ("Contact") and Steven Maeda ("Lost").

"Helix" will premiere January 10 at 10p.m. on Syfy. Moore has another new series, "Outlander," in production at Starz. For now, check out the first trailer for "Helix" below:
