Watch: Lifetime Remakes 'Steel Magnolias' With an African-American Cast

Lifetime's remade 1989 weeper "Steel Magnolias" with an all-African-American cast, with Queen Latifah, Alfre Woodard, Phylicia Rashad, Jill Scott, Adepero Oduye and Condola Rashad in the parts first played by Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and Julia Roberts.

The Herbert Ross original was prime sob-while-eating-ice-cream melodrama, and this remake looks to be no different other than having the added benefit of Woodard, who's walks away with everything she acts in, and a chance to see "Pariah" star Oduye on screen again after her indie breakout role.

Check out the trailer below -- the film's scheduled to air later in the year.

I love the cast. No, it isn't going to be as good as the original, but you would have to have a heart of stone not to enjoy QL and Phylicia Rashad. I'm esp excited because in some of the salon scenes, Queen Latifah is wearing a cheetah salon cape made by my company http://www.berazorsharp.com Razor Sharp Salon Wear! So exciting!

Just another fabulous and brillant ideal; Thank-you, I loved the first one with Sally and the girls., one of my favorite movie, I can see again and again. However, this time will offer another style, another hue, I love it.

I will be so very happy to see this all star cast in this remake of this movie. I am a huge fan of Alfre Woodard, Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad and Jill Scott but I don't know anything about Condola Rashad, Phylicia daughter or Adepero Oduye as members of the cast but I can't wait to see it I liked "Steel Magnolias" the first time, this time I hope to love it.
