Watch: Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson Come to a Slow Boil in a New Trailer for HBO's 'True Detective'

A new trailer for the upcoming HBO limited series "True Detective" was recently released and it is certainly compelling. The video, below, highlights the drama's timeline, as we see stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson age over the course of a 17-year murder investigation.

It is the trailer's slow burn of bleakness and violence, underscored by the borrowed "28 Days Later" score, that makes the name  for the promo, "Slow Boil" deserved. The series was created and written by Nic Pizzolatto, with Cary Fukunaga ("Sin Nombre") directing all eight episodes. "True Detective" debuts Sunday, January 12 at 9pm on HBO.
