Watch: Teaser for Joss Whedon's 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' on ABC

One of the recent network pickups that came as no surprise at all was ABC's of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the Marvel universe series developed by Joss Whedon. While Whedon's record on the small screen has been one of ambition, critical acclaim and fan heartbreak, he arrives to this project high off of directing "The Avengers," the third highest grossing film of all time.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will find the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" creator building out the story of the organization at the core of "The Avengers" and related to other Marvel properties, including the return of Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson (the character's untimely passing in the blockbuster getting explained away somehow -- mere death cannot stop a giant franchise).

ABC official ordered "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." to series on Friday, though it seemed an awfully safe bet before then, with Whedon directing the pilot. The network just released a teaser for the show, which co-stars Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker and Elizabeth Henstridge. Check it out below:

I am so excited that this show got picked up, and from watching the teaser, I know it will be great! I am definitely going to be watching to see where it goes, so I’m glad I don’t risk missing episodes with my DISH Anywhere app. My job at DISH requires me to travel a lot, so I use my app to stream shows I record on my DVR, to my tablet. Waiting at the airport is always better when I get to spend it watching shows.

Coulson's "untimely passing" was actually explained in The Avenger's film. Pay close attention, Allison. It's in there, and not terribly subtle. ;)

Right -- I was pointing out the TV series is going to have to explain away that death, since he's now back and the main character. I apologize if that was somehow unclear.
