If the first scene from IFC's upcoming miniseries "The Spoils of Babylon" is any indication, the Will Ferrell and Adam McKay-produced program is going to be incredibly weird. A spoof of generation-spanning sagas like "The Thornbirds," "The Spoils of Babylon" was created and written by Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele ("Casa de mi Padre") and stars Tobey Maguire and Kristen Wiig as the adopted son Devon and the biological daughter Cynthia of oil tycoon Jonas Morehouse (Tim Robbins). The series, which premieres with two back-to-back half-hour episodes on Thursday, January 9 at 10pm, seeks comedy in forbidden love and, apparently, economist Adam Smith. Jessica Alba, Will Ferrell, Jellybean Howie, Val Kilmer, Haley Joel Osment, Tim Robbins, Michael Sheen and Steve Tom also star, with cameos by Molly Shannon and David Spade and the voice of Carey Mulligan.
