"Da Vinci's Demons," the new series from Starz premiering in the spring of 2013, is a historical fantasy about the life of a 25-year old Leonardo Da Vinci (Tom Riley, of "Bedlam" and "Monroe") created and written by David S. Goyer (writer of "Batman Begins," "Dark City," "Blade II" and "Man of Steel").

The drama is set in Florence and bills itself as the "untold story" of the Renaissance genius, and co-stars Elliot Cowan ("Sinbad") as Lorenzo Medici; Laura Haddock ("Captain America: The First Avenger") as Lucrezia Donati, Medici's mistress and Da Vinci's lover; Lara Pulver (“Sherlock”) as Medici's wife Clarice Orsini and Blake Ritson ("RocknRolla") as Pope Sixtus’ bastard son, Count Riario.

The eight-episode season is a BBC co-production, and appears in the trailer below to be a lush, pricey production filled with lavish costuming, semi-period details and the requisite sex and violence, as expected from a show that will be filling the place vacated by Starz's biggest original series success to date, "Spartacus," which kicks off its final season in January.
