WGN America has become the latest channel to get into the original programming game with "Salem," a scripted drama set in 17th century Massachusetts and starring Janet Montgomery ("Dancing on the Edge") as Mary Sibley, the wife of an elderly, wealthy selectman in the town of Salem. Seth Gabel ("Fringe"), Shane West ("Nikita"), Ashley Madekwe ("Revenge"), Xander Berkeley ("The Mentalist"), Tamzin Merchant ("The Tudors") and Elise Eberle ("The Astronaut Farmer") also star in the story of what fueled the Salem witch trials. The series was created by Brannon Braga ("Terra Nova," "24") and produced by Fox 21.
Based out of Chicago, WGN America is the only remaining superstation in the country to be carried nationally on cable and satellite. "Salem," its first scripted venture, will premiere in 2014.
